A Special Yarn for a Special Lady, and a Wonderful Cause

When For Yarn's Sake opened in November 2009, specialty yarn supplier Lorna's Laces contacted us and offered to create an exclusive colorway for our store. Our thoughts instantly went to my father's late wife, Susan Currier Wills.
Susan lost a courageous battle with breast cancer in June 2006. She was a vibrant, smart lady who loved her cats, classic literature, cooking and working in her garden. An accomplished English professor and scholar, she adored her students and teaching. Susan's favorite colors were lavender, purple and periwinkle - all represented so well in a beautiful yarn created exclusively for For Yarn's Sake.

In honor of her life, her husband Max "I can only handle roller coasters from a computer" and For Yarn's Sake's owner-Anne's father, has become an active supporter of the Breast Cancer Network of Strength. Network of Strength has been a trusted resource for 30 years and has helped thousands find the information they need to make educated decisions, as well as support families of breast cancer patients.
The Breast Cancer Network of Strength's Walk to Empower, held each year on Mother's Day, celebrates its 19th year promoting it's mission to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone. The Walk inspires all who attend and is a perfect way to honor survivors, commemorate a loved one, and pay tribute to those who are no longer with us. This year, the Walk to Empower will take place in our own backyard, Seattle, on Mother's Day 2010, and For Yarn's Sake is a proud supporter and contributor.

For Susan's Sake yarn is available in Shepherd Sock (80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon) - a fingering weight with 215 yards per skein ($12.50 plus shipping), and Shepherd Worsted (100% Superwash Merino Wool) – a worsted weight with 225 yards ($20 plus shipping).
